Last of the fall rides

K&P Trail

What do you do when you need a distraction from trying to buy property? You go and find a trail with lots of potholes the day after it rained. What you end up with is a very dirty bike, mud covered gear, and a huge grin on your face.

My husband and I found a 53+ acre property that we loved, we were going to buy it, fix the house up, and build a off-road bike track on it. It didn’t work out, issues with the septic system, blah, blah, blah, so we are back to looking. It’s very frustrating to find a place and become attached to it then to have it slip through your fingers. I needed a distraction so I hoped on my bike and went to the K&P Trail, an old railway line that’s been turned into a multi-use trail in the Lanark Highlands. It had rained pretty heavily the previous days and it had turned a rather benign trail into a mud puddle filled good time!

Sometimes when I’m road riding my mind can start to wonder if I’m really stressed or anxious about a certain thing, but when off roading everything else ceases to exist, except me and my bike (except for the turtle crossing the trail that distracted me just long enough to almost send me into the swamp). When off-roading you need to have your focus 100% on what you are doing, as my still healing shins, forearm, and wrist will testify to, and when you are able to do that, to successfully block out all the BS it can be one fo the best feelings in the world! For someone dealing with PTSD and all the wonderful side effects that it can bring, being able to completely block everything out and just be in the moment is a rare and wonderful thing these days. Before I bought a motorcycle I could never fully understand how freeing it was to be on the back of a bike, but now as the weather is getting to cold to ride I wonder how patient I can remain until the spring, until I can have that feeling again.

Even though the fall colours had passed their peak I still managed to catch some alright photos, and was even pleasantly surprised at coming across an idyllic little stream. The rest of the photos are posted on the Photos page.

  1. I don’t know where to find the photos page. I am sorry about the property falling through but you were smart to check things out before committing your money. You will find something eventually.
